Why would anyone want to do a proper study and still have to show figures on how many deaths are caused on the roads while driving? Isn't it obvious enough that this action is dangerous?
These people really have nothing to do.
With the rising popularity of mobile phones with touchscreen functions, the rate of such accidents will most probably increase sharply if motorists start SMS'ing on the roads. How could one possibly have a tactile feel of the virtual buttons on the screens while they SMS? I have been observing people on the train and buses while they SMS with their iPoots and other similiar devices. None of them mastered the true art of SMSing without looking at their screens.
Remember the times when you could still SMS while watching TV? Or while talking to a friend with your handphone behind you, without looking rude? I think with these touchscreen phones around, multitasking could only happen in the handset itself.
That's why I always nag those around me to slow down or stop whatever they are doing, when they are punching SMSes. Most of the time when they do not heed my advice, they'll end up making love with a complete stranger.
The risk of causing an accident might even be doubled while driving on a bright, sunny day. Never mind about the fantastic TFT screens that manufacturers claim that is able to eliminate the glares from the Sun. I bet many drivers have a really hard time looking at the virtual buttons even in a brightly lit area at night.
I'm propelled to think of a solution for this. Well.. the solution is...
Keep your eyes on the road at all times!
